Rather than conventional houses with a garden, The Village was borne out of a vision to create beautifully detailed homes enabling human connection in a biodiverse landscape setting.

FOUNDING PRINCIPLE — DESIGN

Leading architecture firm Breathe have developed a reputation for designing thoughtful community-centric homes which are sustainable and efficient without compromising on amenity or detail.

EXTERIORS

Inspired by the natural surrounding landscape and local historical built form, robust materials and finishes like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified timber, carbon neutral clay bricks, galvanised steel and exposed concrete predominate the exteriors of the homes at The Village. A rural language of timber columns, beams and pergolas flows through the design, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor.

The architecture is honest and embraces the Breathe philosophy of ‘build less, give more’ with each exterior element carefully curated and celebrated in the design exposing them externally to reveal the bones of the building.

Incorporating best practice environmentally conscious design and sustainably sourced materials, homes at The Village will feel spacious and be rich in amenity.

INTERIORS

Having been purposefully chosen to bring people closer to nature, the interior materials prioritise Australian made and carbon-neutral materials. The use of harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in glues, sealants and paints have been reduced to ensure homes are healthier.

Timeless in appearance, the interior finishes at The Village are refined yet inviting and have been designed to age well. Two balanced, calming material palettes inspired by the natural surrounding Daylesford landscape in both light and dark shades have been created and named after native Australian birds ‘Corella’ (the light scheme) and ‘Banksii’ (the dark scheme).

Designed by Breathe from the outside in, The Village has a distinct design language and sense of sustainable luxury that is carried elegantly from the façade through to the interior spaces.

THOUGHTFUL, CONSIDERED HOMES

With a focus on low impact, responsibly sourced products to create durable and sustainable homes, Breathe have selected bespoke ceramic basins, dish sconce lighting and wall hooks by Robert Gordon Interiors to feature in all bathrooms.

Designed and made on-site at the Robert Gordon workshop in Melbourne, all cast basins, lights and wall hooks are made from recycled scrap clay, and fired in an electric kiln, offset with solar.

Developed on the principle that strong communities are as important as strong design, The Village encourages interaction and connection through a blend of shared and private open spaces.

Landscaping is planned to feature small to large canopy trees, perennials, shrubs and grasses lining streets and filling the private and common spaces. All verges and nature strips at The Village will host seeded wildflower meadows rather than lawn.

The mix of plants comprising both Australian natives and exotic species have been selected to reflect the surrounding bushland context as well as Daylesford’s heritage styled gardens. The overall plant palette will bring a diversity of colour, contrast and textures intended to link to the existing biodiverse character of the town.

Designed by landscape architect Acre, the public and private spaces at The Village are separated by a soft transition, with privacy managed through simple rural style fencing and the landscape alike.
